In the previous theme we have seen how the Lord would return in glory, at the time the Father has appointed to renew all things in Christ and to have Christ as Head of everything. He will reign forever and ever and His Kingdom will have no end.

In this reflection, I am going to refer briefly not to Sunday or first day of the week, which is also called ‘The Lord’s Day’, but to the day when the Lord will come again, the Second Coming or Parousia. It will be the end of the history and the beginning of the eternity.

In the Our Father, the Lord taught to those were His to pray to the Father saying: “Your will be done on the earth as in heaven” (Mt 6:10). In heaven the will of God is done in a perfect way. Nothing is done with the least rebelliousness in relation to God. All is harmony, communion and love. God’s plan is carried out in a perfect way, because the heavenly creatures obey in all and do the holy will of the Lord. In the same way the Christians, beginning with each one of us, should pray that the will of God be done on earth as it is done in heaven.

In the previous theme we began from the citation “It is not anyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” who will enter the kingdom of Heaven, but the person who does the will of my Father in heaven” (Mt 7:21). Let us have a look at how a true disciple is not the one who calls Jesus Lord, but the one who in addition, and above all does His will. Doing the will of the Father or that of Lord Jesus is the same, because the will of both is the same in everything.

“It is not anyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” who will enter the kingdom of Heaven, but the person who does the will of my Father in heaven” (Mt 7:21).

The above mentioned verse and those that follow it appear in the Jerusalem Bible under the heading of “the true disciple”.

In the previous week we have seen how our Lord has nothing to do with the masters of the world. Now, let us have a look at some more differences between the Lord and the other masters.

·         The masters of this world oppress whoever they can:

“You know that among the Gentiles the rulers lord it over them, and great men make their authority felt” (Mt 20:25).

The Lordship of Jesus is completely different and opposed to that exercized by the lords of this world. The Lord of lords and the King of kings, the true and only Lord, comes to teach all humankind by His example who He is and we see in the Revealed Word, the way He has to manifest His Lordship over all things and among these, over all men.

Among the people, those who exercise any type of authority and power, either do it following the style of the Lord or do it in a human way, or in a more mundane one, that has nothing to do with the way it is exercized and taught by Christ.

“No one can be the slave of two masters: he will either hate the first and love the second, or to be attached to the first and despise the second. You cannot be the slave both of God and of money” (Mt 6:24).

We have to begin with the idea that every man serves someone or something, although without intending. The way we act in life, reflects whom we serve. Our service is related to a great extent to our behaviour, dedication and surrender. This leads us to the inescapable need of taking a decision in life. Here it is necessary to take it freely and consciously, to decide what do we want from our life, what road are we disposed to walk, and where we want to reach.
